IT TOOK 18 YEARS, BUT LOOK AT WHAT WE GOT!
It’s been a good few years for Dragonball (Z), for some reason. There was the ‘Battle of Gods’ movie in 2013, now there’s Revival of F of course and we’re even getting a new anime named Dragon Ball Super.
That’s not even all though, because just yesterday it was announced that the upcoming anime will also get a manga adaption to go with it! We’re not sure why everyone felt like making major Dragon Ball projects again, but we’re certainly not complaining.
What do we really know about the upcoming anime and manga, though?
Well…Very little, as it turns out. The anime will come out in July this year as a weekly show in Japan and then the internet will be flooded with fan-subbed versions for people to pirate.
The story is supposedly set just after the final fight of DBZ’s Buu saga, meaning it might actually make Dragon Ball GT completely non-cannon. Now if you like GT, of course that sucks, but most fans actually kind of hate it so pretending like it never happened might indeed be the best option. As the series’ original creator, Akira Toriyama, was rather burnt out and done with the series after the Buu arc, his involvement was limited. This might be the reason it was poorly received by fans.
Speaking of which, good news! He is credited with Dragon Ball Super’s character design concepts and original story, so we’ll probably see his style in both the plot and design of the show. After an 18 year break, aside from the occasional movie, he apparently felt ready to do some Dragon Ball work again!
By the way, if you’ve been paying attention to things like the DBZ movies, you’ve probably noticed the promotional material showing both Goku and Vegeta with super saiyan style haircuts, but with blue hair instead of gold. Of course the internet was filled with all sorts of new theories concerning new transformations or a new level of super saiyan, but sadly it seems those have all been shots down.
Japanese fans have mentioned that the hair is basically nothing more than a redesign. The result of going super saiyan after absorbing godly power in Battle of Gods. It seems like an odd choice, considering how iconic the golden blonde hair has become, but if it’s just a redesign then we honestly don’t care too much.
What do you think? Are you guys eager to see Super too, or are you annoyed that GT will now probably no longer be cannon? Let us know in the comments!
